Introduction: Engineering courses are available at Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral levels. Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) is a 4-year, full-time Undergraduate course in Engineering. Prerequisites for pursuing a B.Tech degree is 10+2 passed with PCM group from a recognized educational board. There are 8 semesters of classroom learning in the 4-year course followed by a project in the final year.
Admissions in the Undergraduate and Postgraduate engineering courses take place through entrance examination. For admission to Undergraduate programmes of all the NITs (National Institute of Technology) and other reputed Engineering colleges, candidates have to appear for Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main). For admission to the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology), students have to sit for JEE Advanced.
Some states also hold their own entrance tests for providing admission to B.Tech programmes. Some state level entrance exams are AP EAMCET conducted by the state of Andhra Pradesh, BCECE conducted by the state of Bihar, TS EAMCET conducted by the state of Telangana and JCECE conducted by the state of Jharkhand.
The scope of work for Engineering students extends to planning, designing, testing, production, construction, implementation, maintenance, etc. Candidates use scientific theories to arrive at practical solutions. From being confined to industrial processes once, Engineering has extended its branches to business and technology today.
